Eye-paint was used to make the eyes look larger and for protection from the sun
Perfume was used to mask body odor and for religious rituals.
Oils, creams, and ointments were used to soften the skin and to protect against the sun/dry winds.
Lip & cheek paint was used to add a red tint the lips and lightly tint the cheeks.
Henna was used to stain hands, nails, and in some cases hair.
Wigs were worn by men and women to parties and official functions.
Mouth wash was used to keep a “decent smell” and give “perfect odor.”
Eye-paint was made of green or black kohl. Green kohl contained malachite ore (basic copper carbonate) while black kohl contained galena ore (lead sulfide).
Perfumes were made of animal fats or plant oils. Frequently mentioned were frankincense, almond oil, cassia, rose, thyme, myrrh, chamomile, cedar, lavender, rosemary, lily, olive oil, peppermint, aloe, cardamon, marjoram, cinnamon, and sesame oil.
Mouth wash was made of water and natron (a salt). Herbs like anise and frankincense were chewed or gargled with milk (El-Kilany, E., & Raoof, E., 2017).
